Physicals & Pre-Participation Exams (PPE)

Physicals refers to an annual general multi system medical exam and screening visit with a focus on early recognition or prevention of medical problems.  It also refers to pre-participation physical examination (PPE) which is performed prior to starting a sport or job and is required by all schools prior to the season starting.

Physicals are a broad spectrum exam which has an opportunity to catch medical conditions early that a patient may not have know to come in and see the Doctor about.

If you are under 40 years old and in good health then you probably only need a physical every two years. After 40 you should be seen yearly.

Organize your medical history. A written timeline can be very helpful. Bring any labs or prior MRI’s or studies you have. Also, think in advance about questions you may have and write them down so you don’t forget.
